After the successful progress and outcomes made by children at our Castle Academy this summer, EMLC Academy Trust has made an important decision to recommend the merger of Castle Academy with our brand new state of the art Northampton International   Academy (NIA) next door, in order to maximise the opportunities both offer to children and families in the Northampton town centre.

We would like to invite you to tell us what you think of the proposal. This is part of the statutory consultation process being managed by the EMLC Academy Trust that operates both academies.

We welcome your views

We would like to know what you think of the proposal being made to merge the two academies.  We are running a consultation from the 9th December 2015 until 20th January 2016.

Our proposals are as follows:

  •  The intake of 60 pupils for each school will combine to create 120 places in Northampton International Academy
  • The intake for Year 7 will remain at 300 pupils
  • Castle Academy will technically close
  • All Castle Academy children will automatically have a place in the merged academy
  • The current Castle Academy site will be used for pupils aged from Year R (age 4+) to Year 3 (age 7+).
  • Pupils from Year 4 (age 8+) upwards will use the NIA building.

Advantages

Castle Academy and NIA will be able to work together much more closely for the benefit of all the children across the ages 4 – 19.   The merged academy will be able to create an outstanding integrated learning campus at the centre of the community enabling a better investment of new resources for all the children, create opportunities for innovation, and enable all the children to share the new high quality facilities including the theatre and dance studio, sports hall and gymnasium, state-of –the-art IT and technology facilities and specialist learning areas, especially in the sciences and modern foreign languages.

Consultation meetings

This will be an opportunity to hear more about the proposal, ask questions and give your views. Representatives of the Trust will talk about the merger and the two Principals, Lorna Beard and Andy Hardy, will explain why they are strongly in favour of the proposal.

Date the meeting will be held on is Wednesday 13th January 2016 for 6.00pm at Castle Academy.

There will be a separate meeting for staff at Castle Academy on the same day at 3.45pm.
